Elections for the next Mayor of London and London Assembly members, as well as the by-election for Hillrise ward, will take place on Thursday 2 May. You must now show photo ID when you vote at polling stations. See a full list of accepted forms of ID.

Hillrise ward by-election - 2 May 2024

Who can vote

To vote in the Hillrise ward by-election, you must be: 

  • registered to vote 
  • 18 or over on the day of the election (polling day) 
  • a British, Irish, qualifying Commonwealth or EU citizen 
  • a resident at an address in the London Borough of Islington in the Hillrise ward.

You must not be legally excluded from voting.

How to vote

You can:

If you are voting in person, you must bring photo ID to vote.

If you do not have the right type of voter ID, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC) before 5pm on 24 April 2024. This will give us enough time to send you a VAC so that you can vote in person on Thursday 2 May 2024.

Key dates to remember

  • Tuesday 26 March - Publication of Notice of Election
  • Monday 8 April, 4pm - Publication of Statement of persons (and parties) nominated
  • Tuesday 16 April - Deadline to register to vote (midnight)
  • Wednesday 17 April (5pm) - Receipt of postal vote applications
  • Wednesday 24 April (5pm)
    • Deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate
    • Receipt of proxy vote applications
  • Friday 26 April - First day to issue replacement postal votes
  • Thursday 2 May - Day of election (polling day - 7am to 10pm)
