Paying for care

Most people will need to pay something towards the cost of their care and support. Find out if you're eligible for assistance and how you can get assessed.

How to use your personal social care budget

If you’re eligible for financial support, you could get a personal budget to spend.

You’ll get a choice of 3 ways you can use your budget.

  • a monthly direct payment to your bank. You can use this to choose what care you’d like based on an agreement with the council
  • the council arranges and pays for your care for you
  • a mix of the two ways. With the council paying for some services and you paying for the other

Find out more about personal budgets and direct payments on the Age UK website.
