Free council tax for Islington care leavers under 25
Find out if you have no council tax to pay as an Islington care leaver under 25 or how to apply for relief as a care leaver from another borough.
Islington care leavers do not have to pay council tax until they are 25 years old. You must have been looked after by a local authority for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14 and continued to be looked after at school leaving age or after that date.
You will get a bill with nothing to pay if you are an Islington care leaver and:
- are under the age of 25
- live in Islington
- claim the other council tax discounts you are eligible for, such as Council Tax support, single person discount or student exemption.

If you are a care leaver from a different borough and now live in Islington, complete the care leavers relief form at the bottom of this page and send it back to us at one of the addresses below.
