Discretionary Council Tax Energy Rebate

Islington’s Discretionary Council Tax Energy Rebate scheme is for households who were in receipt of council tax support on 1 April 2022.

In response to rising energy prices the council has introduced a Discretionary Council Tax Energy rebate (DCTE rebate) that offers top-up Council Tax Energy Rebate (CTER) payments to the most vulnerable households.

Islington households in receipt of council tax support on the 1 April 2022 will receive a top-up award through this discretionary scheme for their main or sole residence.

Council tax bands A-D

Households in receipt of council tax support in council tax bands A-D will receive an award of £150 from the main CTER scheme.
In addition, households in bands A-D in receipt of Council Tax Support on the 1 April 2022 will receive a top-up award from the DCTE rebate scheme of £62.50.

Council tax bands E-H

Islington households in receipt of council tax support on the 1 April 2022 in council tax bands E-H will receive an award from the DCTE rebate scheme of £212.50.

Foster carers, shared lives and care leavers

Islington foster carers, shared lives and care leavers who were not in receipt of council tax support as of the 1 April 2022 will also receive an award from the DCTE Rebate scheme.

Households in council tax bands A-D will have already received an award of £150 from the main scheme. In addition, Islington foster carers, shared lives and care leavers households in bands A-D who were not in receipt of council tax support as of the 1 April 2022 will receive a top-up award from the DCTE Rebate scheme of £62.50.

Islington foster carers, shared lives and care leavers in bands E-H who were not in receipt of council tax support as of the 1 April 2022 will receive an award from the DCTE rebate scheme of £212.50.

The maximum combined award of CTER and DCTE rebate

The maximum combined award of CTER and DCTE rebate in respect of any household is £212.50.

How will an award of DCTE rebate be made?

  • If you were paying your council tax by Direct Debit before 1 April2022, you will receive the DCTE rebate as a payment into your Direct Debit bank account during June 2022.
  • If you don’t already pay by Direct Debit, you can set this up online.
  • If you were not paying your council tax by Direct Debit before 1 April 2022, you can use the form provided below to choose to have the DCTE rebate credited to your council tax account, or to receive a payment.

The current Government guidance states all payments must be made by 30 September 2022.
