How the licence holder can vary the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS)

What you need to do if you're the licence holder and you are looking to vary the DPS.

You must:

  • complete an application form to vary the DPS
  • provide a signed consent form from the new DPS
  • pay a £23 application fee.

All the forms can be downloaded from ‘Useful documents’ section.

You must send a signed copy of the application form, consent form, the current premises licence and the fee to the Licensing team, 222 Upper Street, London N1 1XR or email them to licensing@islington.gov.uk

Cheques for the fee should be made payable to Islington Council. We can take debit or credit card payments over the phone.

You must also send a copy of the application to the police and the current DPS. We will send the police a copy on your behalf if you email the completed application form to us.

You are also able to apply and pay online via the GOV.UK website. Ensure you have scanned signed consent form to attach.

After you apply

The variation application is automatically granted unless the police make a representation within 14 days.

If the police do make a representation, then the application will be considered by the council’s Licensing Sub Committee at a public hearing. If no representation is made or the application is not refused, the applicant will be issued with a new licence document showing the new DPS.

The applicant has the right to appeal to the magistrates' court if their application is refused by the subcommittee.
