Who can apply
Residents and employees of businesses who have an eligible address within a School Street zone, who have access to a vehicle that is used for their transportation will be eligible to apply.
School Street – Existing permit holders permit can be issued to a vehicle that must be registered to you and your address.
You do not need to supply proof of address or vehicle ownership when applying if you have an eligible on-street parking permit. Eligible on-street permits are:
- Residents permit
- Free Residents Permit
- Business Permit
- Motorcycle Permit
School Street – Non-permit holders permit (including estate permit holders) can be issued to a vehicle that must be registered to you and your address.
If you have no current on-street parking permit, this also includes estate parking permit holders, you will be asked to provide evidence.
You will need to provide one of the following documents for your proof of vehicle ownership:
- V5 (vehicle registration)
- Vehicle insurance documents
- Vehicle lease agreements.
You will need to provide one of the following documents for your proof of address:
- council tax bill (current year)
- energy or water bill (dated within the last three months)
The registered vehicle will be exempt from the designated traffic restrictions within the School Street zone.
The School Street permit is electronic, so you don’t need to display anything in your vehicle.
The School Street permit will only be active from the date we confirm via email, that your application has been processed and the permit is ‘live’. Although you may not have received an email to confirm your permit is ‘live’, your vehicle will be exempted from 6am the next day following application through your Online Parking Account.

- sign-in to your parking account if you have one or after you've registered
- choose 'apply for a permit'
- click 'School Streets permit'
- upload documents that prove your address and the vehicle you drive if you apply for a School Street - non-permit holders permit.
Blue Badge holders
If you are a Blue Badge Holder who lives outside a School Street zone, and you need access to a School Street zone to access a property, for example a School or a medical centre, you may be granted an exemption. Applications will be assessed, and exemptions will be granted on a case-by-case basis.

Your application is required to be assessed by a member of team when applying. Your vehicle will not be exempt from the School Street zone that you applied for, until we confirm via email that your application has been processed, and the permit is ‘live’. Your School Street permit will only be active from the date you receive a confirmation email.
Renewals
Your School Street permit can be renewed by re-applying using your parking account. Failure to renew your permit may result in Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) being issued if the vehicle enters or exits the designated School Street zone.
Change of address
The School Street permit is not valid if the resident or business moves to a different address not located within the School Street zone.
If there are any changes to your address it is your responsibility to inform us of these changes by using your online parking account. Failure to inform us of any changes may result in Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) being issued if the vehicle enters or exits the designated School Street zone.
Change of vehicle
If there are any changes to your vehicle it is your responsibility to inform us of these changes by using your online parking account. Failure to inform us of any changes may result in Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) being issued if the vehicle enters or exits the designated School Street zone.
Permit validity
A School Street permit duration is three years, unless you are a Blue Badge holder living outside a School Street zone your permit will reflect the same expiry date as your Blue Badge.
The School Street permit is not valid if it has expired, been revoked or is not renewed. It is your responsibility to renew your permit. Renew through your parking account.
