Islington is leading the fight against the poor air quality in London. Working with leading authorities and the Mayor of London, Islington heads up several key projects and is pioneering new ways to tackle air pollution and the health effects that result from it.
The young, elderly or those with respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, such as asthma, emphysema or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, are the most affected by air pollution. However air pollution is shortening all of our lives and affecting everyone who lives, works and studies in the borough.
Islington monitors air quality across the borough and works with neighbouring councils to make air quality information available to the public via the London Air website. You can use this website to check air pollution levels in the borough.
We recommend that everyone signs up to Islington’s airTEXT service. This free service provides air quality, UV, pollen and temperature forecasts for the borough.
Islington is working with the Mayor of London and TfL to roll out this service to bus stops and train stations, so look out for Islington’s airTEXT there too.
