Parenting and family support

All families could benefit from some extra support at times. In Islington there are services designed to help families, from pre-birth to adulthood.

Family Information Service

Islington's Family Information Service gives free, impartial information, advice and guidance about services for children, young people and families, including:

Expectant parents and families with children under 5: Bright Start Islington - Under 5s and Children’s Centres

As well as childcare and early education, Bright Start services, including children's  centres, offer stay and play sessions, Esol classes and young parents’ groups, plus advice on, housing, debt, mental health problems, training and employment.

Families with school-aged children up to 19 years: Families First

Families First can help you with issues such as housing, work and training and debt problems - plus things like dealing with teenagers’ behaviour, gang activity and family breakdown.

Parenting Programmes

We offer courses to help you in your parenting role.

Support for Parents of Disabled Children

Our Local Offer contains all the help you can find in the Islington area for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. This runs from health to travelling to school, leisure activities to training and work and from social care services to independent living.

Support for Young Parents

Young parents can get support from their local children’s centre, or from a range of youth and health services.

Support for carers: Flexible Breaks Fund

If you’re an unpaid carer in Islington, our Flexible Breaks Fund can pay for you to have a break.
