Having a permit allows us to regulate businesses using polluting chemicals and protect staff and customers.
Before you apply for a permit, you are strongly advised to read relevant parts of the Defra general guidance manual.
There is a one-off £148 fee for the permit and a £76 annual renewal fee. Central government sets the amount for both and information about these charges can be found on the GOV.UK website.
You can download the permit application form from ‘Useful documents’ and email it to email@example.com. We will contact you to take fee payment over the phone.
Alternatively, you can send the form and a cheque made payable to Islington Council to the Pollution team, 222 Upper Street, London N1 1XR.
After you apply
Your application should be processed within 28 days of submission and you can trade while application is being processed.
The premises will usually be inspected within the 28-day period, depending on when the application was made.
Renewing your licence
We will invoice you each year to renew your licence.
There could be a charge of £151 or £227 for the annual renewal, depending on whether the required paperwork has been submitted and/or following an inspection and based on the condition of the premises.
