Licensing decisions in Islington are based on the promotion of the licensing objectives.

These objectives are:

  • the prevention of crime and disorder
  • public safety
  • the prevention of public nuisance
  • the protection of children from harm.

Our Statement of Licensing Policy, which can be downloaded from 'Useful documents', below, explains how licensing decisions are made in Islington and how licensed premises are expected to operate.

The policy includes details about Islington's Cumulative Impact Areas (also known as 'saturation' policy areas). Some areas of Islington have been identified as having high concentrations of licensed premises, which collectively are associated with nuisance or crime and disorder type problems in the area.

Licence applications for premises in these areas receive special attention and are likely to be refused unless the applicants are able to adequately demonstrate that they will not contribute to these problems.
