Energy efficiency funding for small businesses

Your business or non-profit organisation could get funding to help reduce the amount of energy it uses or its carbon emissions.

What you can get

You could receive:

  • up to £750 for improvements, such as upgrading smaller electrical equipment that are expected to save less than 1 tonne of carbon per year
  • up to £1,500 for improvements such as upgrading your lighting to LEDs or upgrading larger electrical equipment, improving glazing or installing external shading
  • up to £2,500 to install an air source heat pump

The amount you can get depends on the energy and carbon savings your improvements are expected to make. We will visit your premises to calculate this.

Who can apply

You can apply if you are a business or non-profit organisation that:

  • is based in Islington
  • has less than 50 employees
  • has a turnover of less than £10 million
  • will use the grant for your organisation's premises (building)

You cannot apply if:

  • you run your business from home
  • the work is necessary to meet legal requirements

What happens next

After we get your application, we will visit your business or organisation to discuss the project.

We will calculate the savings that your project will make.

Then we will decide if you will get the grant.

If you are successful

You must provide 2 quotes for the work you plan to do.

We will consider the cost of each quote and the energy savings the work is expected to achieve when deciding how much funding you will receive.

You must spend the funds within 6 months of receiving your money.

You will need to repay the money if:

  • you do not carry out the works
  • you do not give us copies of relevant invoices within 6 months

If the work costs less than expected, you must repay unused funding.

After installation

You must fund any maintenance for anything you installed.

You must complete a survey 12 months after you receive the grant.
