Easter service changes

During the Easter period, some of our services will be operating slightly different hours. Our council’s bin collection schedule will change for one week starting on Friday 29 March to make sure everyone’s waste is picked up around the bank holiday.

See the full schedule and your amended rubbish and recycling collection dates and other service changes including parking and library opening times over the Easter period.

Safe Havens scheme

Safe Havens are a way for you to easily get support from local businesses, if you need help.

If you are feeling threatened, are being harassed on the street, are unwell or just in need of some help, look for the Safe Haven sign in windows. Someone in the Safe Haven will be able to help you.

You can also find Safe Havens on our interactive map.

Safe Havens can help by:

  • Providing a friendly face and reassurance
  • Calling the police or family or friends
  • Simply giving you directions or public transport information

Remember: if you are in immediate danger call the police on 999.

In Case of Emergency cards

Safe Haven 'In Case of Emergency' (ICE) cards are available from Islington Council’s community safety team for you to fill in the details of someone you would like to be contacted in an emergency. This could be anyone – a friend, relative or someone else.

You can then hand your ICE card over to someone in the Safe Haven.

To request an 'In Case of Emergency' card you can:

Apply to become a Safe Haven

Public premises such as shops, cafes, pubs, libraries and other places of interest can register to be officially known as a Safe Haven.

We know that businesses care about their patrons and Islington’s residents. Becoming a Safe Haven is a way to show that anyone can go into a local business and be supported. They make explicit what most of our businesses already do and they show that, as a borough, we are all invested and care about safety and each other.
