This is an exciting day for Islington, and we expect the celebration to attract large crowds around the stadium. We will be working closely with Arsenal Football Club and the police to ensure that it is a safe and enjoyable event.
Whether you are hoping to come to watch the celebration or live close to the celebration, read on for more information to help you plan for the day.
Details of the celebration
The celebration will take place in Armoury Square at the Emirates Stadium on Monday 26 May. The event will start at approximately 10am and finish at approximately 12.15pm. Find out more on Arsenal's website.
Road closures and parking suspensions
Parking suspensions will be in place from 9pm on Sunday 25 May and road closures from 7am to 3pm on Monday 26 May. These will affect Benwell Road and Hornsey Road.
Benwell Road
- Closed for through traffic.
- Open to residents leaving Queensland Road or entering Benwell Road only. There will be stewards available to check residents in and out, using their driving licence.
- Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) filters on Benwell Road will be switched off between 7.30am – 3.30pm.
- Parking suspensions in the bays closest to the event.
Hornsey Road
- No access between Holloway Road and Benwell Road and Benwell Road and Jackson Road.
- There will be no parking available – any vehicles parked in suspended bays or on double yellow line will be removed.
Safety
Safety is paramount and special arrangements have been put in place by the council, Police and other emergency services for the day, including stewards to assist managing the event.
Barriers and cordons erected around the stadium will help with crowd control and there would be limits on the number of people allowed to view from the area adjacent to Emirates Stadium.
Public transport
Many people may want to travel to Islington, so Tube stations, especially Highbury and Islington and Finsbury Park, will likely be busier than usual. There are also closures on the Piccadilly line, so Arsenal and Holloway Road will be closed.
The latest information about changes to public transport are on the Transport for London (TfL) website.
Clean up
Our community teams will be out to ensure the streets are clean and opened as quickly as possible after the event.
If you spot any issues with litter and overflowing bins, please report them to us on the Love Clean Streets app or My Islington.
You can also report anti-social behaviour to us online.
