Help shape our new website

We’re redesigning the council website to make it easier to find support and access council services online.

We want to understand more about your experience so we can make sure our new website works better for you.

Your feedback matters so take our short survey and help us create a better experience for everyone.

Social media house rules

We want to create a more equal Islington, where everyone who lives here can thrive. This means treating everyone fairly and equally on our social media channels as well.

We want our social channels to be a welcoming and inclusive place. To ensure that everyone can engage with our social media channels, we have community guidelines as outlined below.

What you can expect from us

We use these channels to inform you about our services, news, and bigger plans and ideas for the borough. We also use them to work with residents on any questions or issues they may have.

We also try to make our content accessible to everyone. We do this by:

  • Adding alt text to our images

  • Using CamelCase in hashtags

  • Adding closed captions to our videos and voiceovers to explain what is happening

  • Limiting our use of emojis so that our posts can be easily interpreted by screen readers.

  • Providing clear context on any hyperlinks in our posts

What we want to hear from you

Our channels are a great place to share:

  • The things you enjoy doing in Islington such as events and activities

  • Lovely or interesting things about your Islington community

  • Any feedback that we can do something about, questions and thoughts about our services.

When you can reach us

We are online 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. We will deal with all enquiries including those sent out of hours during this time. We aim to get back to any queries within 8 hours, but please allow a maximum of 24 hours for non-urgent queries. In most cases you will be able to access services more quickly through our website.

Members of our team are working to respond to you when they can, so please be polite and patient. Anyone who is repeatedly rude and/or aggressive to members of our team or other users will be banned from commenting and posting on our channels.

Rules for using our social media channels

  • Your content must be within the relevant social media channel’s terms of use

  • You must only post information you’re happy for everyone to see. Do not post private information about yourself or others.

  • Your content must be relevant to Islington (the borough) including council and non-council activities.

  • Your language must be appropriate and not intend to cause offence.

Content we will not accept:

We will not accept content that includes the following on our channels:

  • Abusive or threatening language and/or imagery

  • Foul language

  • Language and/or imagery that incites hate against a group of people including racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic and ableist language

  • False or misleading information intended to make others think it's true

  • Content that is in violation of any law or regulation

  • Spam content

  • Posts that promote content unrelated to council activities

  • Content from users with an offensive username or profile picture

For members who break our community guidelines as outlined above, we will remove and hide comments. For any continuous breaches of these guidelines (up to 3 separate posts), we will block users from being able to post on our channels. If this happens, we will let you know why you have been blocked.
