Liverpool road zebra crossing proposals

Islington council is currently consulting on upgrades to the existing zebra crossing on Liverpool Road near the junction with Barnsbury Street.
The proposals consist of:

The upgrading of the zebra crossing from a one-stage crossing to a two-stage crossing through the implementation of a proposed central island.

Additional cycle line markings on Barnsbury Street West
The proposed central island would allow pedestrians to focus on one direction of traffic at each stage of crossing. Furthermore, the island would provide cover for cyclists travelling east to west on Barnsbury Street via Liverpool Road. The proposed right turn pocket and road markings would provide cyclists with guidance as to where to stop when travelling eastbound across Liverpool Road.
