Mental health support in schools

Ask a trusted adult at your school about help with your mental health - here's how it works.

If you need mental health and wellbeing support at your school, speak to a trusted adult first like a teacher or school nurse. If needed, they can make a referral to any help you might need.

School Wellbeing Service

Islington’s School Wellbeing Service (SWS) supports children, young people, and their families experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and promotes emotional wellbeing and resilience at school.

The teams support young people and families with:

  • fear and worries about school, family or friends
  • feeling sad and low
  • difficulties with friendships
  • difficulties following rules and requests.

If you would like help from the SWS, speak to your school who can complete a referral form for you.

CAMHS in Schools

If you need help from the CAMHS in Schools Team, speak to your teacher or tutor, school SENCO, learning mentor or a member of pastoral staff. They can refer you to your school’s CAMHS clinician or get advice on the best service to help you.

School nursing

Each school in Islington has a named school nurse who visits the school on a regular basis. School nurses offer advice and information about a wide range of health issues and make referrals to other agencies where appropriate.
