Dog breeding licence

Any premises in Islington that's used for dog breeding must apply for a licence from us.

A licence is required for any premises where more than two bitches are kept for the purposes of breeding for sale of their offspring. 

The licence lasts for 12 months and must be renewed before its expiry date.

You can download the application form from ‘Useful documents’ below. 

Send the completed form, along with a cheque for £320 made payable to Islington Council, addressed to the Animal welfare service, 222 Upper Street, London N1 1XR.  

Alternatively, you can email the form to animal.welfare@islington.gov.uk.  

We will only process your cheque or take credit or debit card payment over the phone once we are certain all the licensing criteria has been met.

After you apply

Premises must be inspected by a council officer and a vet before a licence can be issued. 

The right to appeal

If your application is refused, please contact us in the first instance. You can appeal at the local magistrates’ court.
