Being a Borough of Sanctuary in Islington means we welcome refugees, migrants and those seeking asylum. Refugee Week is the world's largest arts and culture festival that celebrates the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking asylum. This year's theme is: Community as a Superpower.
We are asking everyone in the borough to consider doing some simple acts of kindness such as sharing a smile or a warm greeting to others, doing a kind deed and thanking others for the kindness they offer you. Whether you have lived in borough all your life or you are new to Islington, we want everyone to share feelings of belonging.
Monday 16 June to Sunday 22 June: What’s on
This is our first Refugee Week programme. It will include a small range of activities across the borough throughout the week. There are both social and professional events and we hope you can find an event to take part in.
Film programme
If you can’t join one of the events you can enjoy watching one of the National Refugee Week Free Films from your own home during Refugee Week.

Along their journeys, they encounter a kaleidoscope of characters each with their own stories of love, loss, and the absurdities of life. Amid the poignancy, moments of humour and wonder remind us that even in grief, there’s room for laughter and joy.
Our Cosmic Dust is a heartfelt and imaginative tale that explores how we find guidance in others and solace in the cosmos – all seen through the wide-eyed perspective of a child. This three-time award-winning production blends intricate puppetry, hand-drawn illustrations, and inventive video design to craft a visually stunning and delightfully unexpected theatrical experience.
