Disputes and advice about traders

If you have a complaint about a trader or require advice about a disagreement, contact Citizens Advice:

The Citizens Advice consumer service is a telephone and online advice service only.

Citizens Advice will give you practical and impartial advice on how to resolve your consumer issue and tell you the law that applies to your situation. Where applicable, they will refer details about reported traders to us and we will contact you if necessary.

The Citizens Advice consumer service works in partnership with trading standards services in all local authorities across the UK.

What are your rights?

You have different rights dependent on the issue you have. Citizens Advice lists the consumer issues they can help you with; ranging from returning faulty goods, cancelling a packaged holiday, to reporting junk mail.

Business advice

If you want business advice, you have three options:

  1. use the free online advice service on the Business Companion website
  2. use our informal paid-advice service (see below)
  3. use our formal paid-advice service by applying to join a Primary Authority relationship with us
