Islington's Local Plan review
Each Local Planning Authority is required to have an up to date Local Plan setting out the policies and proposals that will guide development in the area over the next 10 to 15 years.
Islington has an adopted Local Plan made up of several documents, including the:
- Core Strategy (2011)
- Development Management Policies
- Site Allocations
- Finsbury Local Plan (all 2013)
We are currently reviewing the adopted Local Plan. This will allow us to respond to changes that have happened at the national and London-wide levels since the Plan's existing policies were adopted, and consider the latest evidence on key issues.
We consulted on the Local Plan: Scope of the Review document from 28 November 2016 to 27 February 2017. We also undertook a 'Call for Sites' consultation to identify future development sites for a range of uses. This consultation was the first stage in the formal plan production process.
Site Allocations Direction of Travel
As the next stage in our Local Plan review we have prepared a Site Allocations Direction of Travel document, informed by the responses to our Call for Sites. We have identified over 150 sites where new housing, workspaces, shops, open spaces, or leisure and community facilities could be provided over the next 15 years.
We are inviting views on the sites and uses put forward in the Direction of Travel document between 12 February and 26 March 2018.
You can view the Site Allocations Direction of Travel document in our consultations section.
The consultation will be carried out in accordance with the Council’s adopted Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) (2017).
If you have any questions about the Local Plan Review, or if you have any problems accessing the documents, please contact the Planning Policy Team.
