Islington Foster Carer's Association has been established for over 20 years as a voluntary group run by Islington foster carers for Islington foster carers. Once approved, you will automatically become a member of IFCA and an existing member will contact you to welcome you to Islington and our community of carers.

What we do

We arrange a general meeting every year where we elect a committee to best run the association. We have our own meeting room which doubles as a playroom when carers need and is also where we run our weekly drop-in coffee mornings. These regular coffee mornings provide carers with an opportunity for camaraderie, friendship, fun and support. A safe space with your peers, to reflect and share common experiences. Every Islington carer is welcome to come along.

We also arrange subsidised trips to the theatre and pantomimes for groups of our children, foster children and members. Older children benefit from arranged activities and day trips. We regularly attend community social events and activities, and always need volunteers to help.

How we help you

We can provide one-to-one support for carers by arranging sessions to meet and talk about experiences and exchange advice. New members find this particularly useful, as they get the opportunity to hear about situations other carers have already experienced and to discover ‘tried and tested’ ways of resolving them.

Working with the Islington Fostering Service?

IFCA is independent of Islington Fostering Service but works very closely with its staff and plays a key role in ensuring foster carers’ feedback and opinions are voiced and that news and new statutory regulations are communicated and discussed.
