The role

The Partnership Director - Fairer Together is a new and innovative role that will take responsibility for leading the work of the Fairer Together Borough Partnership to tackle inequality and make Islington fairer.

As the ‘Council of Fairness’, we have made a significant impact in a number of areas. However, national and global developments – austerity, Brexit and most recently Covid-19 and the death of George Floyd – have put unprecedented pressure on our residents and shone a bright light on the deep inequalities and unfairness that blight our communities. Therefore, our mission to make the borough a fairer place has never been more important and we need to accelerate the pace and scale of our change over the next 10 years to rebuild a fairer future for Islington.

The Partnership Director - Fairer Together will lead the partnership to deliver an integrated early intervention and prevention offer to support community wellbeing and transform outcomes for vulnerable residents. The role will set the ambition, define the values, and develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for aligning resources and integrating services across the council and the wider partnership, in support of the ambition to develop a world class approach to early intervention and prevention.

In pursuit of this ambition, the successful candidate will take leadership of key areas of integrated strategy and delivery including challenging inequality, integrated strategic commissioning, the new integrated Community Wellbeing Service and customer services (the We Are Islington model) as a beacon for change across the wider system. In addition, you will:

  • take overall responsibility for the design, implementation and delivery of an all-age integrated early help/community wellbeing service that draws on best practice to take a strengths-based approach to meeting the needs of individuals and families in Islington

  • take strategic leadership for the Council’s work to challenge inequality, racism and injustice

  • lead the design and delivery of the Challenging Inequality Programme, working with members, senior leaders, staff and the wider community to identify clear priorities and to deliver tangible change

  • lead the development of an integrated approach to strategic commissioning and investment across the Fairer Together Partnership in line with the new statutory framework for Integrated Care Systems

  • produce a strategic commissioning and investment plan that sets out clear priorities for helping local people to Start Well, Live Well and Age Well.
