Job description

The Director of Adult Social Care must be a leader who can achieve significant success in developing and delivering, directly and through partnership social care for all vulnerable Islington adults and their carers. As a member of the Department’s Senior Management Team, we are looking for someone who has the commitment and leadership skills to drive forward the council’s core principles and priorities.

At Islington, leadership involves driving strategy and change whilst keeping an eye on the detail in order to understand and drive performance improvement. We are looking for a leader to ensure that adults’ social care positively supports the values and objectives of the Wellbeing Partnership.

In addition, you will:

  • Lead the development of service strategies and best practice in social care, and building on synergies across adult social care and health services to improve health, wellbeing and independence for local people.

  • Act as the Directorate lead and advocate in all matters relating to adult social care operations.

  • Advise and support members and work collaboratively with colleagues across the council to ensure excellent social care in Islington.

  • Commit to wanting only the best for Islington and its residents.

  • Effectively manage and be accountable for adult’s social care operational budgets and exploit all funding opportunities to improve and extend services to vulnerable people and their carers.

  • Ensure that partners in mental health and other relevant services are involved and have a say in developing a coherent approach to social care that supports independence, choice, control and recovery.
