Islington Council has secured half a million pounds to improve Archway Park and to provide new play provision as follows:
- New children’s playground,
- new slide,
- multi ball court,
- seating area,
- new main central path,
- additional lighting column
In October 2013:
We spent time in the park talking to local adults and children, community groups and the wider public about the issues facing the park and the opportunities and ideas for improving it. The most common issues were that people felt unsafe and that the park felt too enclosed and uninviting had poor play provision and lighting.
In March 2014:
We returned to the park with initial suggestions for how the park could be improved with the budget available. We showed two sketch options – one which focused on improving the existing sports pitch and one which focused on a wider range of improvements.
People told us at the event and online that they would prefer us to focus on a wider range of improvements, with a focus on play provision and keeping the large slide. This option is shown on the adjacent plan.
In July 2015:
The final design proposals plan was presented in Archway Park to the local community. The Council received positive feedback and have now proceeded to the procurement stage to appoint a landscape contractor to carry out the improvement works in 2016.
In October 2016:
The construction works started on site and will be opened in Summer 2017 the new park will be opened by the Mayor of Islington with a celebration event.
