Islington Greener Together

Apply for funding to create or improve a green space in your local area

Would you like to get involved in making your local area cleaner, greener and healthier?

If so, Islington Greener Together is for you. It's about helping local people turn unloved grey spots into welcoming green spaces.

Residents, businesses and community groups are invited to apply for council funding to bring their green ideas to life.

You tell us your ideas for greening a space and where you’d like it to be, and we will help make your ideas a reality. You don’t have to be an expert gardener. We will support you to maintain your lovely new spaces.

Islington Greener Together is a part of the council’s commitment to create a cleaner, greener, healthier borough through projects that green public spaces such as Islington in Bloom, people-friendly streets neighbourhoods, tree planting and supporting Friends of Parks and estate gardening groups.

Project ideas

Applications closed 29 April 2022

This year we will prioritise proposals which green up grey spaces on our streets, paths and estates. The sorts of project ideas we could include are:

  • food-growing areas for neighbours
  • community orchards
  • raised herb gardens
  • wildlife corridors
  • pocket parks and parklets.

As well as improving our outside spaces we hope that these projects will bring a range of benefits to you. These include bringing people together, enabling people to relax and enjoy being closer to nature and the chance to learn new skills.

We expect to approve around 50 projects across the borough. We will also seek additional funding to support more ambitious ideas where possible, so please keep your ideas coming.

How will the process work?

Applications will be accepted from Wednesday, 2 March to Friday, 29 April 2022.

All eligible ideas will be considered by local ward councillors with final decisions announced at the end of June 2022.

The council will deliver the first phase of projects by spring 2023.

Our training programme:

Islington Greener Together Champions

Once the project has been delivered, there will be a handover and introduction gardening session and an opportunity of training, support and resources through our Islington Greener Together Champions scheme.
