Help to get about

Many of us need additional support to get around and stay connected to our families, friends and communities. There are a number of organisations who can support you in getting out and about.

Accessible mobility and transport

There is a number of great schemes in Islington that provide support for getting around. These include accessible transport services and schemes that provide information about getting about and mobility in the borough.

Freedom Pass

The Freedom Pass gives older people free travel on most public transport in London and it gets you some reductions on bus travel around England too.

You can apply for one, either on the Freedom Pass website, or by collecting an application form in person from our libraries or the Customer Centre at 222 Upper Street – if you need help to make an application online, please visit one of our libraries.

If you have a disability, the council covers the cost of your Freedom Pass. Find out more and apply.

Disabled Go

Disabled Go is a great website that has a guide to the accessibility available across a range of spaces to go and places to visit, from restaurants to museums and parks, both in Islington and around the country.

Accessible buses

The PlusBus accessible bus service runs between Hoxton and the Angel along roads such as Bath Street, Packington Street, the Sainsbury's supermarket in Islington, Percy Circus, Skinner Street (for Exmouth Market), Old Street (Golden Lane) and Dufferin Street.

The service runs Monday to Friday (except public holidays), every 30 minutes from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

The yellow single-decker buses have low floors and wheelchair accessible ramps that can be boarded at bus stops or hailed anywhere along the route, where it is safe to do so. Freedom Pass holders travel for free as do students aged 16 and under, with all other people paying a £1 cash fare.

Route maps and timetables are available on the council website or by contacting the service provider, Hackney Community Transport. Their contact details are:
