Cycle maintenance, Dr Bikes, led rides and more

We are involved in all sorts of cycling activities, events and fun schemes. Why not get on your bike and join us!

Cycle maintenance

We offer places for adults on free cycle maintenance classes.

Learn the basics of bike repairs

This one-day course will teach you how to keep your bike running smoothly.

You will learn how to check and clean your bike. You will remove a wheel and tyre and fix a puncture, take a look at different types of brakes and how to maintain and adjust them, you’ll replace a brake cable and learn how to index derailleur-type gears. You will need to bring your own bike to work on.

Basic bicycle maintenance manual

If you can't make it to one of our courses but still want to try some home maintenance, have a look at the basic bicycle maintenance manual provided free from the London Cyclist website.

Bicycle maintenance workshops

Some local borough cycling groups run bicycle maintenance workshops. These are often volunteer-led, and can offer you advice and help you to maintain your own bike.

You can attend the workshops at:

Hackney Bike Workshop (three evenings a month)
Kentish Town Bike Workshop (first Monday of the month)

You can contact them to find out more details. Please note that these workshops are not run by or affiliated to Islington Council.

Dr Bike

What does Dr Bike do?

At our Dr Bike sessions, our mechanics can check everything on your bike from wheels, brakes, gears and tyre pressure to lights, racks, pedals, saddles and more.

By the end, your bike will feel loved and cared for!

Any minor adjustments we can make to your bike, we do there and then. If there is something we can't fix on site, we’ll let you know exactly what needs doing and give you a rough guide about what it should cost to repair at a bike shop.

All our mechanics are friendly and approachable and have a wealth of cycling knowledge, so feel free to pick their brains about our cycle skills training or other cycling activities.

There is more information available if you'd like to find out more about Dr Bike.

Monthly Dr Bike sessions

Our monthly Dr Bike sessions take place from 4pm to 7pm on the first Wednesday of every month, outside Islington Town Hall on Upper Street, N1 2UD.

We also organise pop-up Dr Bike sessions to support other events and organisations, so check our schedule to see if there's one happening near you.

Led rides

Our guided rides are perfect for the whole family and developing cyclists, especially if you've recently completed a Bikeability Level 2 course or cycle skills session. Children will need to be accompanied by an adult and you may also bring other family members who are competent cyclists.

Our attractive routes have been designed by experienced cycle instructors to allow you to enjoy and explore Islington and beyond by bicycle.
