It is delivered through a programme of specially-commissioned arts projects and events. The festival is designed to encourage residents of all ages across Islington to develop their enjoyment in reading, writing and freedom of expression through participation in high quality arts activities and events.
Word2016 has a particular focus on highlighting the impact that reading and writing can have on mental health and wellbeing, and on involving those who may find it harder to have their voices heard. Some extraordinary and sensitive new projects have been commissioned this year by companies including Cardboard Citizens, Key Changes, Upswing and House of Illustration working in collaboration with local people and our libraries.
Throughout June, find words in football stadiums, schools and streets, libraries and theatres, pubs and playgrounds - there’s something for everyone in Word2016.
