Islington’s summer activities programme for children and young people offers a range of activities for children and young people of all ages in July and August. All activities are provided following government guidelines on coronavirus.
Free and fun activities with food
This summer, Islington Council along with schools and other partners, is providing free activities for your children during the holidays, along with a free, healthy and nutritious meal. All activities are completely free for families with children aged 5-16 (including 4 year olds in Reception) eligible for benefits-related free school meals, children with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and children with a social worker or family support worker. There may be a small charge for some activities for all other families. See details of providers and how to book direct with them:
Our successful Lunch Bunch programme is also running this summer 2021, offering children of all ages the chance to enjoy free or low cost fun activities alongside a free, health and nutritious lunch.
Bright Start activities for under 5s will be running over the summer holidays including stay and play sessions indoors and outdoors and discover the parks activities.
Islington’s libraries will again bring you this year’s Summer Reading Challenge! The Challenge promotes reading as a fun activity for children aged 4-11, helps them discover new authors and types of books to read and helps them keep up the reading habit over the summer.
This year’s theme is ‘Wild World Heroes’, a celebration of nature and action for the environment that will seek to show children how they can make a difference in the world. Wild World Heroes has been developed with a very special partner for 2021, World Wildlife Fund UK. Sign up at your local library.
Islington's Adventure Playgrounds are open for outdoor play sessions with social distancing and other Covid secure measures in place to ensure the safety of children, families and staff. Islington has 12 adventure playgrounds, which are safe, welcoming and fun for children aged 6 and up. They give children the opportunity to safely socialise with others outside their household, burn off energy and boost their physical and emotional health.
Teens - 13+
Young people aged 13+ living in Islington can sign up for Summerversity.
The programme should feature over 100 free activities including costume design, music production, kayaking and tennis. Places are allocated so that everyone who applies on time will get a chance to do at least two courses. We recommend that you register and book as soon as possible. Most activities are suitable for complete beginners and no previous experience is required.
Young adults - 16+
The Launchpad programme for young people aged 16+ offers a range of FREE courses and workshops to help young people learn new skills, get careers advice and gain new experiences to add to their CV.
