Safety of Consumer Goods

Consumer Protection Act 1987

The Trading Standards Team enforces this Act within Islington. The Act covers the safety of a range of consumer goods including toys, electrical equipment, upholstered furniture, nightwear, pushchairs, and cosmetic products.

This Act also introduces the "general safety requirement" and the CE mark which is recognised throughout Europe.

The Department for Business & Innovation Skills (BIS) has produced a range of technical advice booklets that are product specific.  These can be found by searching the gov.uk website.  Click on the green wording to see the pages on consumer safety.

As an example click on the green writing to view the BIS guidance on the General Product Safety Regulations through the related websites link on the right.

Further information on consumer regulations can be found on this website www.businesscompanion.info
