If you are looking to get involved in the local community and develop new skills, knowledge and experience, there are a wide range of volunteering opportunities within the borough's voluntary and community sector.  

If you are a VCS organisation looking to host volunteers, we run our own corporate volunteering programme and work with partners who can help you find a volunteer with the right skills and experience to support your work.

Voluntary Action Islington (VAI) and the Volunteer Centre

If you are looking to offer your own time as a volunteer and need support and advice, you can register with VAI who will help you find a suitable opportunity within the borough’s VCS.

Register by emailing or calling 020 7832 5800. VAI also runs drop-in sessions for people interested in volunteering. Opening hours are 10am to 4pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

If you are a VCS organisation looking for advice and guidance on how to recruit, manage and develop volunteers effectively, VAI offers a range of support including training and one-to-one advice sessions.

The BIG Alliance

The Businesses for Islington Giving (BIG) Alliance finds volunteers from local companies to provide business support for the borough’s VCS organisations, in the areas of:

  • business planning
  • recruiting board members
  • mentoring
  • financial and accountancy advice
  • marketing
  • legal advice

Council staff volunteering programme

We run a corporate volunteering programme for our staff, who are encouraged to volunteer for one of our core priority areas: employment, education, elderly care and social inclusion. Our staff have a broad range of skills and specialisms across HR, finance, communications and legal.
