Discretionary Housing Payment

Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP) are extra payments we can give you if your housing benefit is less than the full amount of your rent.

We cannot give a DHP to cover the cost of things included in your rent, like charges for fuel, water or food and we cannot pay more than the shortfall between your benefit and your full rent.

We only have a limited budget for DHP which is set by the Government, once this is used up we may not be able to offer extra help.

From April 2013 DHP claims will be dealt with as part of the local Resident Support Scheme. Please see the Resident Support Scheme page for more information.
