Only British, Irish and Commonwealth citizens can vote at Parliamentary elections.
The deadline by which you need to be registered to vote for the 2017 General Election is 22 May. If you are already registered you don't need to do so again. Register online at www.gov.uk/registertovote. It takes less than 5 minutes and you will need your National Insurance number to hand.
The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 23 May 2017 – read more about postal voting and download an application form. Postal votes will be posted around 25 May 2017.
The deadline to apply for a proxy vote, where someone votes at your polling station on your behalf because you are unable to go in person, is 5pm on 31 May 2017. Read more about proxy voting and download an application form.
Not received your postal vote?
If you have not received your postal vote by 2 June this can be re-issued to you. To do this contact Electoral Services on 020 7527 3110 or at email@example.com.
Emergency proxy vote
If you have:
- had an accident or medical emergency after 31 May
- been called away on business and were only told after 31 May
so you won't be able to vote in person on 8 June 2017, you may qualify for an emergency proxy.
Your application needs to be attested (verified) - you can download and complete one of the application forms at the bottom of this page.
The completed application must be with us by 5pm at the latest on polling day, and either emailed to Electoral.Services@islington.gov.uk or handed in at the Town Hall on Upper St, for the attention of Electoral Services.
