Voting and elections

Local elections

At local elections, you vote for the councillors you want to run your local services. Elections to Islington Council are held every four years. The next local elections will be in May 2018.

There are 48 elected councillors in total spread across Islington’s 16 wards (or areas of the borough). In local council elections, you get to vote for up to three councillors to represent your ward.

Councillors are elected for a four-year term. By-elections can be held at any time (apart from the last six months of the term) following the resignation or death of a councillor, but the newly-elected councillor will only serve until the next full election.
