Easter service changes

During the Easter period, some of our services will be operating slightly different hours. Our council’s bin collection schedule will change for one week starting on Friday 29 March to make sure everyone’s waste is picked up around the bank holiday.

See the full schedule and your amended rubbish and recycling collection dates and other service changes including parking and library opening times over the Easter period.

Gritting roads in winter

How we keep roads in Islington clear of ice and snow in the winter. Find out which roads and cycle lanes we grit, and how you can clear ice and snow.

To keep you moving during colds spells, Transport for London and Islington Council use:

  • road and pavement gritting machines working when needed November to March
  • 300 grit bins across Islington
  • the latest weather information to assess if roads need gritting.

Which roads are gritted

Transport for London (TfL) is responsible for keeping all red route roads clear (roads with double red lines on the sides).

Download a map of TfL red routes (PDF 1.7MB)

They also clear tube and rail stations.

All other roads are maintained by Islington Council.

See the main gritting routes in Islington on the interactive map.

To keep traffic and people moving, roads are gritted in order of priority. This means we are able to provide access to all the main transport routes of Islington.

Due to resources, not every road or walkway can be gritted.

Which cycle lanes are gritted

As roads are gritted, so are their cycle lanes. However, some lanes are behind kerbs which can make it difficult for our machines to clear them. Here are a list of areas with cycle lanes being gritted as part of the gritting programme when needed due to safety and general operations.

  • Balls Pond Road
  • Bath Street
  • Bishop Street
  • Chadwell Street
  • Drayton Park
