Elections on 2 May

Elections for the next Mayor of London and London Assembly members, as well as the by-election for Hillrise ward, will take place on Thursday 2 May.

You must now show photo ID when you vote at polling stations. See a full list of accepted forms of ID. You can also apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate in place of photo ID. The deadline to apply for this is 5pm, Wednesday 24 April.

Treading the Boards

Treading the Boards is a two-year project that aims to improve access and engagement to the arts amongst Islington residents

The Treading the Boards initiative forms part of our Arts on Estates programme that engages residents in a range of high quality creative arts projects. The aim of the initiative is to enhance wellbeing, boost self-confidence and strengthen communities.

Between March 2019 and March 2021 the council will partner with arts organisations to deliver a variety of short and long-term community projects within our estate based and Hub community centres and partner venues (Arsenal Hub, Park Theatre).

This innovative partnership will transform and enhance the range of creative opportunities available to residents who find it difficult to access mainstream art classes and workshops.

Activities are open to all Islington residents, however, our key focus is engaging the boroughs elderly, young people, families and vulnerable communities.

We will publise activities as widely as possible, using our social media channels (@IslingtonLife on Twitter, Islington Life on Facebook and Islington Life magazine), estate notice boards, posters and local advertising.

Art partner Activity
Angel Shed Theatre
 A series of art workshops at the Arsenal in the Community Hub ‘Creative Inclusion days’.
Galbour Foundation
 Music composition and technology: poetry and photography project with young people. Due to start October 2019.
Girdlestone Arts Club - led by Marta Corada
 Art classes for estate residents - open to all, but mainly over 50s.
Guillermo Rozenthuler Vocal workshops and public performance direction.
Park Theatre
 Ten week workshops, set within the warm, welcoming, vibrant and professional environment of Park Theatre, using practical confidence builders along with a range of theatre skills. In addition to preparing for any type of work and developing employability skills to maximise their potential to secure work, residents will learn about the creative arts as a route to employment.
Pocahuntas Ceramics  Using creativity to engage residents of all ages and backgrounds, teaching hand building skills to make bowls, vases, tiles and jugs.
