Site management

On 1st April 2012, the management of the HRRC was transferred from Islington Council to North London Waste Authority (NLWA). The HRRC will operate in the same way as it has done whilst managed by Islington Council and it will be ‘business as usual’ for residents. Islington residents can also use any HRRC in North London. For the full list of sites which residents can use and for more details on the NLWA click here. If you do have any questions relating to the HRRC please call 0208 489 5730 or email post@nlwa.gov.uk.

Access

Cars - Car access is via Hornsey Street. Vehicles must be below 1.9 metres in height to enter.

Pedestrians – Pedestrians should use the mixed recycling points (which take paper, glass, cans, plastic bottles and cardboard) on the corner of Caledonian Road and Cottage Road, opposite Caledonian Road tube station. All other materials, or items too large for the bins, should be taken to the recycling centre’s security office on Cottage Road between 8am and 8pm. The staff will arrange for the items to be recycled at the HRRC.

Trailers - Due to tight turning circles outside the HRRC, vehicles with trailers are not permitted to visit the HRRC on weekends or bank holidays.

Charities - Charities are entitled to drop off recycling for free at the centre. Please bring proof of your charitable status, such as headed notepaper, with you to ensure access.

Removal of items from the HRRC by the public

We have a legal duty to ensure all the waste brought to the Centre is disposed of or recycled by an authorised organisation. The handling of waste is subject to strict regulatory controls. Furthermore, waste can be contaminated or hazardous and must be handled with extreme caution. For these reasons, Islington Council does not allow items to be removed from the site by any unauthorised persons or organisations.
