With the dramatic increase in cycling across London over the past few years, an increasing problem is the theft of bicycles or accessories and parts of bicycles. Many of the thefts that happen are opportunistic and following this advice can reduce the chance of them happening:
Spend at least 20% of the cost of your bike on a lock. Check www.soldsecure.com for a list of recommended locks.
If you have removable wheels or seat you will need either a second lock or cable extension.
Consider buying fixed bolts for wheels and saddles if removable.
Ensure you lock both wheels and the frame to the stand.
Lock to a proper cycle stand where possible.
Ensure you remove accessories such as lights and speedometer.
Do not leave your bike locked on the street overnight.
Never lock your bike by the top bar alone.
