Controlled parking zones

CPZs are the most effective way of managing parking demand and are used in our neighbouring boroughs as well as in Islington.

The benefits of controlled parking include:

  • making it easier for residents to park near their homes
  • improved safety, with better visibility at junctions
  • easier access for emergency services, delivery and removal vans
  • reduced traffic and pollution
  • reduced visual impact of cars on the street environment.

Hours of operation

Hours of operation differ in each zone, and are shown on zone entry signs. Maps showing each zone and its hours of restriction can be viewed here. You can also view a complete map of Islington showing all the controlled zones.

Please be aware that there are some other restrictions inside controlled zones, such as bus lanes or single yellow lines, which have different hours of operation to the rest of the CPZ. For example, use of some bus lanes is prohibited from 7am, and some single yellow lines are restricted from 8am. Double yellow lines mean no parking 24 hours a day. Please always check the signs near to where you park to help avoid getting a ticket. For more information on signs and lines follow the link to the Highway Code under Related Websites.

Bank holiday parking

On bank holidays, when Arsenal is not playing at home, motorists can park in any resident parking bay or pay and display bay in Islington for free. You cannot park on double yellow lines or in dedicated disabled bays at any time. You must have the appropriate permit to park in a car club bay or doctors bay. Some controlled parking zones operate on bank holidays when there is an event at the Emirates Stadium so always check the zone entry signs before you park.
