Fostering Fortnight 2012
Fostering Fortnight is the national awareness campaign and runs from 14 - 27 May. This year it intends to highlight the fact that a child comes into care and needs a foster family every 22 minutes across the UK. The Fostering Network estimates that this means at least 8,750 new foster families will be needed in 2012 alone.
13 children and young people need a new fostering family each month in Islington and when there not enough local carers they must be placed outside of the borough away from their friends, family and school. You have already made the first step towards helping a local young life by reading this and there is much more information available on these pages using the links on the left hand side of the page.
You can also attend our next information session on Tuesday 29 May 6pm - 8pm at Islington Town Hall on Upper Street. Here you will hear from not only members of the fostering team but from foster carers currently working with Islington to really get a good idea of what fostering is. More details can be found on the How To Apply link on the left.
If you have any further questions about fostering, please call us free from a landline on 0800 073 0428 and speak to one of the team, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. They can answer any questions you may have about fostering with Islington and explain the application process in more depth.
You can also request an information pack to be posted out or email any questions to fostering@islington.gov.uk
If you think fostering may not be for you please pass on the information to anybody you think may be suitable.
Islington Fostering Service
The Islington Fostering Service is part of the London Borough of Islington local council. We are dedicated to the welfare of children and believe every child and young person is entitled to grow up as part of a loving and caring family. The needs and wishes, welfare and safety of the child or young person are at the centre of Islington's Fostering Service.
