Hosting the world’s greatest sporting event in London creates exciting opportunities for everyone who lives and works in the capital.
Islington is well-placed to benefit from these opportunities. The borough is only a twenty-minute journey from the Olympic Park.
During the Games the borough will only be a seven-minute journey from the Olympic Park, via a high-speed rail link from St Pancras. And with our wealth of cultural attractions, restaurants and bars and our diverse population, the borough will play host to thousands of visitors.
The council is planning to make sure we capitalise on the Games, to build a lasting legacy for the borough. We are regenerating squares and open spaces, investing in sports facilities and activities and opening up opportunities for Islington residents to be part of history by volunteering at the games.
We are also supporting businesses and residents who are keen to access job opportunities and training in sectors such as hospitality and business services, which will particularly benefit from the games.
To coincide with the handover of the Olympic and Paralympic Games from Beijing to London, in Summer 2008 Islington Council published its vision for London 2012. You can download the document from the bottom of the page.
