Welcome to the “At school” homepage.
Information in this section is aimed at school staff, pupils and parents to help them understand how schools can become more sustainable.
Schools have the great potential to make being sustainable part of everyday life, and we aim to support them in achieving this. From building design to lesson content, schools are able to both educate a greener future generation and illustrate best environmental practice to their communities.
The Government is committed to sustainable development stating they are “fully committed to sustainable development and the importance of preparing young people for the future”.
Schools can illustrate sustainable approaches through curriculum, campus and community interaction. This section aim to support schools to achieve this through considering the following themes of sustainability:
• Food and Drink
• Energy and Water
• Purchasing and Waste
• Travel and Traffic
• Buildings and Grounds
• Local Well Being
• Inclusion and Participation
• Global Dimension
The menu on the left hand side explores these areas providing:
1. Examples of projects your school could start.
2. Short films of best practice in Islington schools to inspire your school into action.
3. Information of local support available.
4. Examples of recommended teaching resources.
5. Examples of an Islington school’s work in that area.
There are also upcoming opportunities for your school to get involved in!
