As part of our role in supporting settings to support the progress, learning and development for all children, the Early Years Foundation Stage Team can also offer specific support and guidance around equality issues. This may include advice and support on meeting the needs of young bilingual children, Black African and Caribbean children, boys, children from refugee communities and those with special educational needs and disabilities.
There are a number of central training courses delivered with a focus on equality issues and a number of INSETs also available, for example, around assessing the English language development of bilingual children.
We have also developed a number of resources that can support practitioners in this work (see details and downloadable documents on the Resources pages) and can recommend many others.
