Selling to the Council

Selling to the Council

This section will give you information about selling goods and services to Islington Council. Details on specific areas can be found by clicking the relevant links on the left hand side of this page.

Council Structure

The council is divided into six departments:

  • Chief Executive's Team
  • Children's Services
  • Corporate Resources
  • Environment and Regeneration
  • Finance
  • Housing and Adult Social Services

We also oversee Homes for Islington, an arms length management organisation that has managed our rented and leasehold housing since 5 April 2004. We own Homes for Islington but it works as a separate organisation and is responsible for its own contracts. For more information, click on the Homes for Islington link on the right, under "Useful Websites".

Procurement

Our Strategic Procurement Team advises all council departments on how to buy in works, goods and services. The way we buy goods, services and works is set out in our Procurement Rules. To view a copy of the rules, click on the Procurement Rules link on the left hand side of this page.

These rules provides a framework for procuring (buying in) and aims to make sure that we get value for money.

One Islington

We are committed to One Islington and the three main priorities of:

  • Listening to Islington – listening to what local people want, proactively improving services based on what we hear and feeding back to people to find out if we have got it right

  • Stronger communities – improving the quality of life of all residents and reducing the gap in life chances between the most and the least deprived

  • A greener, cleaner and safer borough – improving the quality of Islington’s environment by making it a safe and enjoyable place to be for all communities.

Islington Council no longer holds an approved list of contractors. Please check our Contract Opportunities page on the left hand side, for all up and coming contracts. For email alerts, you can sign up on our e-Tendering system free of charge by clicking 'London Tenders Portal' under Useful Websites on the right hand side of this page.

Awarding Contracts

Decisions on awarding contracts are among the most important decisions a manager will have to make. The contracts we award should support our commitment to sustainability, be ethical and support equal opportunities.

Individual council departments are responsible for their own purchasing activities, except where we award corporate contracts.

For awarded contracts, please click on 'Contract Store' on the right hand side of this page under Useful Websites.

For information on up-and-coming contracts, click on the Contract Opportunities link on the left, and under 'Related Information' on the right.
