Young Volunteers

Young Volunteers

You’ll already know that young people are passionate about issues such as the environment and that they also want to help others and have a say in how local services work.

But did you know that hundreds of Islington’s young people are using their free time to help the local community in a range of ways across the borough?

Why not join them on activities such as helping out at a local gardening project, looking after animals at the city farm, working on a community radio station or music project, or even coaching a football team?

On the other hand you could walk someone's dog and earn credits at a timebank in return which you can then exchange for singing lessons or getting your bicycle repaired for free.

The possibilities are endless, but what’s certain is that it can be rewarding and fun, giving you the chance to put something back into Islington.

Gain valuable skills and experience to help you beat the competition to break into the industry of your choice and get the job that you’d really like. And if you’re thinking about going on to college or university you’ll find that your volunteering experience will count in your favour, giving you the edge over other applicants.

You’ll find lots of ideas and information on volunteering from this section of the council website, including vacancies for volunteers in Islington or overseas.

There’s also information on other ways to get involved and become an active citizen influencing the way services are run, such as the through the Islington Youth Forum or Pupil Parliament.

Below are some volunteering projects specifically for young people that you can contact. Use the Useful Websites links to the right to find out more about each one.
