Every day, hundreds of Islington residents are finding rewarding ways of getting involved in the community. You too could join them in activities and projects that are transforming lives and the quality of life in neighbourhoods throughout the borough.
All sorts of people volunteer. You may have just arrived in the borough and want to connect locally, or lived here all your life and are looking for ways to help others and contribute to your community. Even if you don't live in Islington but work or study in the borough you can still take part.
Whatever interests and spare time you have, you'll find there's a wide choice of volunteering opportunities. You could volunteer with a community group or organisation, become an active local citizen helping to shape the development of services, or exchange your time and skills with another resident through a time bank.
Whether you want to meet new people, learn new skills, influence decision making or help others in some way, you’ll find all you need to get started here.

Volunteering Opportunity In Islington With CSV Think Family Volunteers
Islington Council has launched an innovative new volunteering project in partnership with national charity CSV and is looking for Islington residents to sign up. Volunteers are needed to befriend and support vulnerable local families in which a parent or carer has mental health problems and there are children under the age of nineteen.
Volunteers are matched with a family and make regular home visits to families and offer non-judgmental practical and social support to help them improve their family life. This could include a range of tasks including helping socially isolated families access local services, enabling children to take part in activities, offering support with parenting skills and practical household tasks and being a role model to children and parents who might not have had many positive influences in their lives. The project aims to involve members of the community in supporting vulnerable local families and follows on from CSV’s successful Volunteers in Child Protection.
The project is based in the Islington Think Family team, which uses a ‘whole family’ approach to support families. CSV provide all volunteers with full training and ongoing support. Anyone over the age of 18 can apply to volunteer, but parents who live and work in Islington are particularly welcome and will be prioritised for places.
If you would like to find out more about this challenging but rewarding role, please contact Rachel James, CSV Volunteering Project Manager in the Think Family team.
