The Town Hall, on fashionable Upper Street, is home to the Register Office and
our Ceremony Rooms. This impressive listed building, with its grand façade and
sweeping marble staircase, provides an elegant setting for your ceremony, not
to mention an impressive backdrop for your photographs.
We currently have three Ceremony Rooms within the Town Hall, and ceremonies
are held Tuesday to Saturday, mornings and afternoons. Fresh floral displays
are provided in each of our rooms, though you are of course welcome to bring
your own, and there is also a sound system which can be used to play your
choice of music as guests assemble and at the signing of the register or
schedule.
The largest of our rooms is the Council Chamber, seating up to 100 guests
(with the option of an additional 60 in the public gallery above). This
impressive circular chamber, with its domed ceiling, stained glass windows and
panelled walls, adds an element of dignified grandeur to the occasion.
Room 99, on the other hand, is perfect for more intimate ceremonies, seating
up to 30 guests. This high-ceilinged, airy room has been refurbished in
keeping with the elegance of the building and decorated with tasteful
simplicity.
The Mayor’s Parlour is our third and most recent addition to the Ceremony
Rooms we offer. Whilst hinting at the splendour of the Council Chamber, yet
maintaining the relaxed, intimacy of Room 99, The Parlour seats up to 13
guests comfortably and is already a much sought after venue.
Please note that Room 99 ceremonies are only half an hour. Personalised vows
and readings are therefore not generally accommodated into ceremonies held in
this room without incurring extra cost.
