Islington Council

One of the most significant ways of enhancing and personalising your wedding is to include a poem or reading by one of your family or guests. This is a unique way of making your ceremony truly memorable and inclusive.

If you are getting married at a register office or an approved premise in England or Wales, non-religious readings are allowed, but must be approved by the Superintendent Registrar. Non religious means all readings that do not contain words such as Lord, God, Heaven, Jesus and so on. If you have a reading in mind that you are not sure about, then ask the Superintendent Registrar. Remember always to get approval for your choice of reading from the Superintendent Registrar or your church minister.
