What is the Islington Strategic Partnership?
The Islington Strategic Partnership (ISP) is the local strategic partnership (LSP) for the London Borough of Islington. LSPs have now been established in all areas of the country.
They bring together at a local level the different parts of the public sector as well as the private, business, community and voluntary sectors to support each other and work together to improve the quality of life for local people. One partner can not address all the problems of an area on its own – it is only by working together that we can achieve lasting change.
What are the aims and priorities of the ISP?
The Islington Strategic Partnership was established in February 2002. Its purpose is to improve the quality of life of local people and to create a community in where people from very diverse backgrounds, comprising extremes of advantage and disadvantage all have a chance to fulfil their potential. The ISP works together to tackle local issues.
Over the past years, ISP partners have worked together to deliver better homes, better education results, improved health and wellbeing, safer neighbourhoods, greener, cleaner open spaces and an increased sense of community engagement and participation.
Examples of programmes delivered during the past year include:
Smoke free Islington
Support and advice to long-term unemployed and those on incapacity benefits to get them back into work or training
Cleaning up some of the most deprived housing estates in Islington
Working with Islington schools and pupils to make our children healthier
Safer Neighbourhood Teams which make Islington residents feel safer and help to reduce crime
Making sure older people get the support and benefits they are entitled to
The Partnership has recently developed and agreed Islington’s Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) which sets out the vision and priorities for Islington over the next 10 to 15 years.
