As a council it is vital that we know the make-up of the community so we can ensure our services are suitable and accessible for all.
Why Do We Ask These Questions? The answers to these questions can help us improve the services we deliver.
Answering the questions on the council's Equalities Monitoring Form is voluntary. If you decide that you don’t want to provide this information, then that’s fine. But the information is useful for us to improve the services we deliver to our residents.
For example, if we find out that certain groups of people aren’t using particular services, we can address these issues to make sure everyone gets equal access to our services, regardless of their gender, age, race, faith, sexual orientation or whether they have a disability.
Any information you provide will be kept confidential under data protection rules. It will be used to plan where the service needs to focus its resources in the future.

What's it got to do with you? Produced by Stonewall explains why a range of data – such as age, gender, sexual orientation and belief – may now be requested by employers and service providers, and what the benefit is. With many organisations responding to new measures in the Equality Act, ‘What’s it got to do with you?’ makes the case for monitoring across all equality strands.
